Alternatives to Buffer for Bluesky
Buffer is a fine scheduler that posts to Bluesky. If you are looking past it, it is usually because Bluesky is your main network and Buffer treats it as one more destination. Here are six honest alternatives, in no particular order of merit, with what each does for Bluesky and where it falls short.
Why people leave Buffer for Bluesky
Buffer's Bluesky page promises scheduling, threads, a queue and a Community tool for replies, and its pricing page lists Bluesky on every plan, the Free one included. That is a good offer until Bluesky is the network that matters. Buffer does not measure your best hours from your own Bluesky posts, does not show how a hashtag did against your usual, says nothing about content labels, and does not keep your Bluesky replies, mentions, quotes and DMs in one inbox. It treats Bluesky as one more destination.
Six alternatives, honestly
1. Fedica
Fedica suits someone who wants free scheduling and takes Bluesky seriously. Its site says posts and threads schedule free with ten active scheduled posts at a time, threads number themselves as you build them, and it applies the labels Bluesky requires. Video is on paid plans, engagement figures start on its Publish plan and follower analysis on Grow. Its weak point is what it does not measure: it picks an optimal time without saying how, and a Bluesky inbox, hashtag figures and follower sources are not found on its site. For prices, see its plans page.
2. Metricool
Metricool suits someone who reports on several brands and wants Bluesky in the same report. Its help pages say Bluesky is in every plan, and its pricing page shows a Free plan for one brand with twenty scheduled posts a month, with approvals and downloadable reports on paid plans. Its help says a Bluesky account with a custom domain handle cannot be connected, and its best time figures come from your audience across every network you manage rather than from Bluesky alone.
3. Publer
Publer suits someone who wants Buffer's shape with better Bluesky handling. Its site says it schedules text, link and photo posts, video, threads of up to 25 replies, and reposts and quote posts in advance, with a hashtag analysis section that ranks your hashtags. Its plans page lists a Free plan with three social accounts and ten scheduled posts each, Bluesky allowed, plus workspaces and approval workflows above that. Its weak point is depth: it says its analytics help you identify peak engagement times without saying how, and follower sources, labels and a Bluesky inbox are not found on its site. For prices, see its plans page.
4. Hootsuite
Hootsuite suits an organisation with several people, several brands and someone who signs things off. Its site says every paid plan includes Bluesky publishing and listening, with up to four images, one GIF or one video per post. Its plans page prices Standard at $99 per user a month billed annually, with a 14 day trial and no free plan, and puts approval workflows on Advanced and above. Its weak point for a small team is that price, and its Bluesky page does not mention threads, measured best hours, hashtag figures, labels or an inbox.
5. Updrift
Updrift suits someone for whom Bluesky is the network, not a network. It is Bluesky only. It schedules into hours measured from your own posts, handles threads and video, sets content labels per post and per account, shows every hashtag against your usual on every plan, follows each new follower back to where they came from, and keeps replies, mentions, quotes and DMs in one Inbox. Team approvals are on Studio. The Free plan gives one account its full figures and a link page for good; Duo is £7 a month for two accounts with scheduling, and every paid plan is 7 days free. Its weak point is its strength: it cannot help you anywhere but Bluesky, has no follower demographics, and is younger than the four above.
6. Bluesky's own app, with free figures beside it
This suits someone who posts a few times a week. At the checked date the Bluesky app posts in real time only; its blog points people to partners for scheduling and the request for scheduled posts on its GitHub is still open. Posting by hand costs nothing and pairs well with Updrift's Free plan, which measures one account whatever posts to it. The weak point is obvious: nothing goes out while you are asleep.
How to choose
- Bluesky only, or many networks. Four networks, one calendar: Publer, Metricool, Fedica or Hootsuite. One network that matters: a tool built for it.
- Free plan or trial. Fedica, Publer and Metricool schedule free within a limit. Hootsuite has a trial and no free plan. Updrift's figures are free for one account; scheduling has a 7 day trial.
- Measured timing or general. Every tool here has a best time feature. Ask whether the hours come from your own Bluesky posts or from a general model across networks.
- Team approvals. Hootsuite on Advanced and above, Metricool on paid plans, Publer and Fedica with added members, Updrift on Studio, and Buffer itself on its Team plan. An agency should check the per user price first.
Each tool has its own side by side page here: Buffer, Fedica, Metricool, Publer and Hootsuite, and Updrift's pricing is on one page. Every rival's features and prices above were read on its own site on 30 September 2026. They change; if something here is out of date, write to hello at updrift.social and it will be fixed.
Questions
Can Bluesky schedule posts on its own?
Not at the checked date. The Bluesky app posts in real time, and the request for scheduled posts on its GitHub is still open. Any scheduling comes from a tool like the ones on this page.
Is there a free alternative to Buffer for Bluesky?
Yes, several. Fedica, Publer and Metricool each have a free plan that schedules to Bluesky within a limit, and Updrift's Free plan gives one account its full figures without a card, though scheduling starts on its paid plans.
Which of these is the closest to Buffer?
Publer and Metricool are the nearest like for like: many networks, one calendar, a free plan and a low monthly price. Fedica is close too and takes Bluesky more seriously. Hootsuite is bigger and dearer. Updrift is the odd one out, because it does nothing but Bluesky.
