The hashtags that go with better posts on Bluesky

Which tags travel with posts that beat their account's usual, across every account Updrift measures. A tag is listed only when enough accounts use it for the figure to mean something.

The sample

Too few accounts yet

The hashtag table is published once at least 200 accounts are behind it, with 30 or more behind every figure shown. The totals have not been built yet. Every account connected to Updrift, the Free plan included, adds to the sample; connect yours and it counts from its first measured post.

How this is measured. Each post's likes, reposts, replies and quotes in its first day, per thousand followers its account had that day, divided by that account's own median post, so 1.0 is an ordinary post for that account and 1.5 is half again better. Each account weighs the same whatever its size, so one large account cannot set a figure. It shows what went with better posts, not what caused them. Only totals are kept, never a row per account or a post; people who asked to be left out are not counted. The sample skews towards creators and towards UK and US time zones, so read it as a starting point and measure your own account. A tag's figure is the mean across accounts in a follower band of each account's median score on posts carrying that tag; an account needs three posts with the tag to count, and a tag 30 accounts to be shown.

Using it

The hashtag guide covers how tags work on Bluesky and how many to use. Your own tags, against your own usual, are on Growth with the free stats. The what-works page has the same sample by format, length and time of day.

Questions

Does adding one of these tags make a post do better?

Not on its own. A tag goes with better posts when it reaches a feed or a search that people read, and when the post fits it. The figure says which tags travel with better posts; it cannot say a tag caused it.

Why is the list short?

A tag needs many accounts using it several times each before its figure is worth printing. Most tags never reach that; the ones here did.
